What else can you do with your theft detection supplies?

With the COVID-19 coronavirus expanding around the globe, we all need to be more watchful about spreading germs. Invisible thief detection powder can help increase awareness with these two activities.

1. That escalated quickly

Germs are invisible to the naked eye, so it’s easy to underestimate how quickly and easily they spread. This activity gives a visual demonstration of germ transmission.

đź’ˇ Tip: This activity is most effective when multiple people participate, but it can be done with only one person.

For this activity, you’ll need

  • A section of paper towel
  • A pen
  • Invisible thief detection powder
  • Applicator brush
  • UV light

Steps

đź’ˇ Tip: If working with a group, don’t let the others see you do Steps 1 and 2.

  1. Use the pen to put a small X or another mark in one corner of the paper towel.
  2. Lightly dust both sides of the paper towel with the thief detection powder.
  3. Pass the paper towel around. Ask each group member to locate the X and then pass the towel on to the next person.
  4. Once everyone has found the X (and handled the paper towel), put the paper towel away, and carry on with your usual activities.
  5. Wait 15–30 minutes.
  6. Shine the UV light on all participants and their surroundings.
    • Pay special attention to people’s hands and faces as well as nearby surfaces.
    • Note how the thief detection powder stays behind even after the person has left the area.

2. How well are you washing your hands?

đź’ˇ Tip: You can do this activity on your own or with others.

For this activity, you’ll need

  • Invisible thief detection powder
  • Applicator brush
  • UV light
  • Soap and water
  • Towel or paper towel to dry your hands

Steps

  1. Use the brush to lightly apply the invisible thief detection powder to your hands. Don’t forget your fingertips!
  2. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds (singing the song of your choice to keep track of the time, if you wish).
  3. Shine the UV light on your hands.
  4. How much of the UV powder is still there?
    • None? — Great! You’re a handwashing pro!
    • A few spots glowing in the UV light? — Not bad. Take note of where the UV powder is still present and remember to cover those areas too.
    • Hands glowing all over? — Time to step up your game. Review the tips below to improve your technique.

Handwashing Tips

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
  4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
